A jump from a platform

This video was created by Stephen Talneau in 2007 at London it last for about 3 mins.

This was a very strange and weird video because at the beginning there is just water splashing up out of a swimming pool, everything is in black and white and slow motion of two young children a girl and a boy diving into the pool doing summer salts. there are a few people watching. There is no sound to the actual activity but there is a man talking over the sad sort of music that would be played in something like titanic. He is explaining how beautiful the young girl is and that these two people are in love and how everything they did was like an adventure, always laughing. There is then a girl voice talking back to the man and it seemed to be she lost the young boy.

What i thought the concept of this video was is that the two children had a great life together and everything was perfect to them and they were always together and then the young boy died and it is showing the video of what it was like with him around and makes you think about what life could be like one minute and how it can change the next.

koyaanisqastsi (life out of balance)

This film is created by Godfrey Reggio and last for 1 hour and 23 Min's.

The types of visual images used in this piece are:

  • A rocket taking off and the dust going every were, it then moves onto a picture that seems to look like cave men.

  • It is very dull and not much light it seems pretty calm.

  • No.1 is around and it concentrates on the grand canyon for a while.

  • Everything is fast forwarded as it is over new york and there are shadows moving over the place all the time at a fast passe.

  • Lots of junk and waste food all over the streets looks really dirty.

  • Looks vandalised, old rusty broken windows and the buildings are falling down.

  • New buildings very nice and shiny, busy streets.

  • Towards the end there is a lit up city looks very nice but is fast forward so everything is moving quickly.

  • At the end there is a rocket setting off and blows up in the air and it is slowed down as its falling threw the air.

The types of audio used in this video is:

  • Piano playing and chanting/singing of a man over the instrument played.

  • Deep notes and voice

  • The sound makes a quiet and relaxed atmosphere and makes you think into what is happening.

  • Music seems like it is building up into something that is going to happen.

  • The music changes to loud then to quiet in various parts.

  • Music gets louder and faster like it is a panic.

  • At the end of the film it is the man chanting again whilst the rocket is coming back down.
I have several things that i think the concept of this film is: That how different places of the world are lived and look or years ago how things happened and then changes to now and how things are.
Another thing the concept could be is that it is showing people that not everything is perfect and people need to think about other people and places.

The use of exhibition space to create meaning (chapter 4)

* If there was a famous piece of art in a classroom the atmosphere would be completely different to in a art gallery this is because less concentration would be on the art in a classroom because everyone is not there to see it also not everyone in a class room would be in silent and people would be distracted.

* every different place a piece of art is put changes the way people look and feel about a particular object because of the atmosphere and the surroundings of were it is.

* In an actual art gallery the atmosphere would be very calm and relaxed this is because everyone there is visiting to look at famous pieces of art and will be taking it all in, concentration from everyone would be excellent.

*The reason for art gallery's is so then peoples work can be viewed in a good space and it will be very bare, also it is not a joke around its a place to be taken seriously.

*people would prefer to be quiet because famous drawing are not what you see very often and people come to look without interruption and quietness helps people to think more about the picture.

*if a picture was protected in a gallery by Gard's and plastic over the picture helps us think and the context in which you view something is as important as the work.

This creates a meaning to any piece of art, the gallery is not just there for a place to view art, it is also a place of meaning because it changes the way you look and think about things this makes the objects inside have more of a meaning, Where as if there was famous pieces of art in a class room it would have less of a meaning because not everyone is concentrating and letting people have the space and time to concentrate and view it in there own mind.
Another thing that changes peoples reactions and interests is that if it was an original piece of art many more people would stop and take the time to look and view it no matter were it was it would have a better affect on people as it would be the only 1.
Its very strange how a certain piece of art can change the mood in a room, there are several video rooms in the Tate some are big rooms with several pictures and a video playing constantly. There are very light rooms therefore people were not very silent and spoke to each other about the art, however there are some videos that are in a dark room with a few seats in this room the mood is very calm and silent this is because the atmosphere in the room makes people feel the need to be quiet.
Some pieces of art i find hard to believe that are classed as art, this is because some piece's are very good and look very complicated to have done or have crafted, whereas there are piece's of art that anyone could of created within the space of 5 Min's these sort of pictures are the ones that have a heavy craft. For example there is a massive picture on the wall in the Tate and it is of different colours if paper just cut up and randomly stuck down. Its hard to believe that this is art work because there is no craft gone into it apart from a few bits of paper cut up. It is now famous and the man who created it will be well known and well off, this piece of art is up in the Tate because apparently this piece was made whilst he was ill in bed from just things he had around him. If it is not very heavily crafted it could well mean it has a heavy concept this is because there are many different meanings and differences to art.
A concept is the meaning of what your looking at or watching for example the video doll face the concept is media influences, she is being controlled by the TV and wants to look like a person off the TV .

Doll face by andy huang

The concept of the video doll face is that this girl robot was once a young girl living a normal life and has now been taken over by the media, it looks like this young girl now wants to be just like a girl on the TV, she is a robot maybe because she is so unhappy with herself and wants to be like someone on TV and is now controlled by it. The craft of this video is all about the computer animation and features used.
